Welcome to D&L Sapphires!
Our Story
In 2022, our family packed up our lives in Africa and headed for a brand new adventure in the Gemfields of Central Queensland, Australia. With no idea what the future held (but plenty of hope!), we dove into the sapphire game. Thanks to some friendly locals who generously shared their sapphire-finding secrets, we struck our first big gemstone and sold it. With the funds, we bought our own faceting machine and started learning the art of cutting gemstones - squeezing in time between bus runs, homeschooling and dinner!
Along the way, we've continued expanding our knowledge within the gemstone industry, including completing a Gemologist and Appraiser Diploma through the United States Gemological Institute (USGI), adding professional gemological training to the hands-on experience gained in the field and at the faceting machine. From learning to identify subtle colour shifts and inclusions to understanding gemstone quality and value, every step has helped us grow both personally and professionally.
From the earth to you
During the week, life revolves around farm work, school runs, homeschooling, and the everyday chaos of raising a family in rural Queensland. Weekends are dedicated to family, fossicking, and gemstones. You'll find us out under the blazing Aussie sun searching for sapphires and exploring the bush while dodging the occasional brown snake (the joys of rural living!).
Whether we're finding shiny stones or purchasing from local miners, each gem has its own unique journey. Faceting these stones is where the magic happens. It's not without its challenges, but each finished gemstone feels like a mini celebration.
Most of our gems in our collection has been faceted by us, except for the smaller ones, which we send to our global faceting partner. For our larger gems, we take an extra step to ensure quality and authenticity by getting them valued by a registered gemologist, so you know exactly what you're getting when you buy from us.

Throughout the year, we love attending local gem and community events across The Gemfields whenever we can. These events are a great opportunity to see our sapphires and other gemstones up close, hear the fossicking stories behind them, and connect with us face-to-face.
